Who is / What is

“Circular wool factory” in an old Inca shoe factory (C. Ramon Llull 74). It was founded in 2020 by Eugenia Marcote (wool artisan since 2013; Consell spinner and dyer artisan charter since 2018) and Gemma Salvador (environmental consultant). Special Employment Center of the Es Garrover Foundation (mental health). It closed in 2025.

Featured work

  • 100% wool felt from native breeds, from extensively grazed sheep in Mallorca.
  • Washing, carding and spinning in the workshop itself with recovered old machines (10 kg per wash); about 4 tons of wool per year, paid to the rancher three times above the market.
  • Porqueras (felt product; name that refers to the sabata Porquera).
  • Identity and product with designer Elisabeth Colom (from the end of 2022).
  • Llanatura Forum in Can Beltran (Inca).
  • Marcote: jacket woven in one piece with Mallorcan red sheep wool, Dona Artesana 2021 award (Llanatura project).

Relationship with the office

History

  • 2013: Marcote starts with wool (felt, markets).
  • 2018: artisan letter (spinner and dyer).
  • 2020: Llanatura founded in confinement.
  • 2021: they enter the Es Garrover Foundation; Dona Artesana de Mallorca award to Marcote.
  • 2022: Elisabeth Colom joins (design and art direction).
  • 2025: closure.

Why is indigenous design

It restored value to the wool of the Mallorcan sheep, treated as waste, with the entire chain on the island. Its closure shows what is missing: infrastructure for washing wool.

For the project

  • Report on why it closed and what can be rescued (machines, knowledge, ranchers).
  • Contact Marcote and Colom for local wool felt pieces.
